New law alerts women to risk posed by dense breasts

fosket

April 15, 2013 –  The Buffalo News article “New law alerts women to risk posed by dense breasts” from the Region section featured Southtowns Radiology radiologist Dr. Claudia Fosket and mammography technician Sue Hohl.  They helped discuss and define the issues posed to women with dense breast tissue, a normal condition that affects 10% of women.  While having dense breasts is normal, it can make it more difficult to spot breast cancer with mammography.  That is why New York has become the 4th state to require women to be notified if they have dense breasts.  This enables women to more effectively speak with their doctor about what their risk factors are and how additional imaging, like ultrasound, may be helpful to breast cancer screening.  To read the entire article, visit the Buffalo News online at the link below.
