Southtowns Radiology is Giving Back for Haven House
The donations have been coming in quickly: packs of diapers, wipes, new onesies and baby bottles, formula, tolietries and blankets. Southtowns Radiology is the drop-off location for items for WGRZ Channel 2’s Melissa Holmes Community Baby Shower, all to benefit the families at Haven House.
The idea was born as Daybreak Anchor Melissa Holmes drew closer to her due date for her first child. The station decided to host a community baby shower, but instead of buying for Melissa the items would all be donated for Haven House.
Haven House is a safe shelter for women and children in Erie County who are victims of domestic abuse. It offers a broad range of residential and community-based services designed to empower victims and support them in seeking safety, self-determination, and justice. Haven House provides victims with the resources needed to rebuild their lives. Children are taught skills to cope with family crises and learn non-violent forms of conflict resolution. As of today, there are 75 women and their children in their care including many newborns and babies.
The Southtowns Radiology team has enthusiastically taken up the challenge. Both the Hamburg and Orchard Park site have bins available in our lobby to drop off items during workday hours. Hamburg Office Manager Diana Iglewski is hosting a baby shower for an SRA technologist also expecting her first child, and asking attendees to bring a donation for the drive. All items will be collected through Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014.
